The Variable Multi-pass Pipeline Plough is the 5th generation of SMD Hydrovision plough and 2nd generation AMP (advanced multi-pass plough).

The VMP has the same basic capability of 350te bollard pull and 2.5m multi-pass trench depth as the AMP500 but is fitted with the following performance and operation enhancing features:

'Always on' Multipass system using variable linkage
Forecutter to reduce passive tow force in dense sands
Increased share opening force (approximately 50%)
to reduce transition-out
Variable buoyancy
Large throat
